Hey, thanks :) I *am* SuSE user and the font problems, at a first glance,
are gone!

The dialogs now look so much prettier and clearer. 

I didn't find any problems with your patch, but want to mention, that 
with LANG=de_DE.ISO-8859-15 I got

Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library

but with the default:

chris@max:~> echo $LANG
de_DE@euro

everything's fine.
