I've uploaded version 2 to ftp.freeciv.org/pub/incoming/terrain1.xpm.  It
includes some vegetables and wheat.  That should help with visual
distinctness.

Well, I don't think there's a way to show the underlying terrain with the
old farmland graphic (I can't picture one).  It seems to me that the
present draw order is about right, assuming that all the higher layers are
appropriately transparent.  (Along those lines, maybe cities should be
smaller?  It's beyond my artistic talent, but it would be nice to see what
a city's on without middle-clicking.)

Hmm, ls -lh terrain1.xpm.  600Kb!  Ouch.  I didn't realize it was so
big.  This version's on the ftp server (general apologies to everyone with
slow connections).
