Maybe easiest to implement and use would be
macro recording.
Assume, that you have additional command,
which can record sequence of keys.

Now, instead of remembering on every two turns
oabout this alone settlers making road,
you can just swith macro on, and then
press:
Arrow-Left, R, Arrow-Left, R, PgUp, R, Arrow-Left, R etc
Macro is breakied when unit is activated manually.

Assume, that macro will be looped automatically,
if start pos. = end pos.
So you can give orderss for units such patrols etc.
One important thing - if key S is pressed,
unit should be awaked during next turn and ready
to perform next macro command.
So you can force unit to stay many turns in this
same place (it is good if you have Republic/democracy
and want to make long patrol only sometimes).

Any comments?

Rgds,
MC
