Yes, it is a little bit more realistic, but is it more fun ?
The reasoning is that the plane is sort of built-in
with the paratrooper.

Also, Vietnam-style Airborne Regiments would come with
choppers which would be integral part of the unit.

But then, scenario designers might like it; but you would
want some more general control, like weight and size classes,
at least 3 of them (airborne[paratroopers], normal[infantry] and heavy[armor, 
ships]).

Transport units would need a flag which tells whether 
they may pickup units outside of cities or airfields.
Maybe the Helicopters' flag could serve for this, too.
