Civ3CTP is not Civ2 though. There will never be a Civ2 for Linux, so
FreeCiv has at least that reason for being. Also, until I've played CTP
for a while I don't know if it will be better or worse than Civ2. It
looks good, and the UI improvements (eg build lists, main map
manipulation of city workers) can only be good but the stuff that
changes the rules have the potential to ruin the gameplay if they're not
careful. FreeCiv should be able to avoid those problems by learning from
CTP's mistakes. I expect they'll get it right (they certainly did with
Civ2 vs Civ), but you never know. And most importantly FreeCiv is Free,
which is reason enough for it's existence.

I hope FreeCiv will do all of the above by providing Civ2 and CTP
compatibility modes as well as it's own extensions.
