I've been using Debian exclusively for several years now and several 
different MP3 players with it.  All my MP3 players connect using USB and 
I have had no issues using them.  I currently use a 30gig INOi, a 2GB 
movox and a 2GB Sansa with an additional 2GB microSD card.
