Two years is an eternity for software development.  Right now the open
source software I use regularly for Windows (and Linux) is all very stable,
and includes:

GIMP 1.2 (although newer versions are available, and I have used them in
Windows with much success on other PCs)
OpenOffice.org 1.x
XChat
Mozilla 1.6
GAIM 0.79 (1.0 just came out, I beleive)
