I would suggest using the gtk2 library, GTK is right smack dab in the 
middle of a major version migration and the gtk1 libs are on the fast 
track to becoming obsolete. I my self are waiting for a handfull of gtk1 
apps I use to finish there gtk2 development series. I have an odd 
problem with the pixmap GTK engine (in GTK1) but the pixbuf engine (in 
GTK2) dosent seem to have the problem.
