IIRC, there was an option during install to have ipmasq recaluclate the rules
after an interface is brought up. If you missed that, then you will have
problems.  The easiest solution is probably just what you did. Imasq is quite
powerful and quite flexiable, but sometimes it does require some tweaking,
expecially if you have multiple networks hanging off the box.

DNS isn't so bad. There is a DNS-HOWTO that will practically walk you through
the steps.
