I've had the exact same problem lately.  gnapster worked for me 2 months
ago... now gnapster as well as nap just freeze, and make no connections.

In Windows, I've noticed that napster thinks it's behind a firewall... and
if I agree with it, it works fine.  Even tho I'm not behind a firewall at
all...
go figure :/
