I've been pleased with my 12x4 Teac SCSI CD-burner.
I also have a 24x Sony SCSI CD-ROM drive.  either brand should be fine.
The general opnion I've heard is that Plextor makes the best SCSI CD drives. 
I can't back that up with any personal experience, tho.

Pretty much any SCSI CD burner will work with Linux.
