I upgraded kernals 2.2.16, or 2.4.0-test3 (downloading test4, as I type) and
haven't been able to get linux to access my printer. The problem is not lpd,
because when I try something like echo "testing, This may work...." |
/dev/lp0" it says that the device is not valid (lp is loaded). I have played
around and found that it wont work at all. I once had the same problem with
one of the redhat releases 6.0 or 6.1 if I remember correctly. I have tried
to make them as modules, and insmod them, but they fail to access anything
(they load without error). The parport is at 0x378 irq 7 and in SPP mode, it
sees it the parport, but no devices, and will not print or access a zip drive.
Does anyone know the options that can be passed to parport (_pc) to get it to
work?

James L
