I presume he was talking about using a standard SCSI controller and Linux's
software RAID.

Yeah, software RAID... Does Linux offer RAID5, or is it just RAID0 & 1?

There is a website I saw once on the topic of using Linux in an enterprise 
(large shop) which had some of that sort of information. I don't remember the 
URL right now though, but you might be able to find it with those as keywords.
