Slackware has a package management suite that, while not nearly as
sofisticated as Red Hat's or Debian's, is functional and works fairly
well. However, even though I have been using Slackware for several
years, I have not gotten very familiar with the tools. I recommend you
read up on them. When I have done is go into the source directory that
includes the package(s) that you want to install. Enter the command
pkgtool (as root). You will get a menu of options. Choose the first
one, which is something like Install from current directory. You will
then get a confirmation screen for each package in that directory
asking if you wish to install it or not.
