Hmm.  I'd say telnetting to port 110 is better than Netscape mail.  :-)

But... to answer your question... The only X-based mail client I've used is
exmh, which was fairly nice.  I still much prefer a text-based client, tho
(currently use mutt, occasionally pine), b/c that way I can use the same
mail interface whether I'm physically at my machine, or logging in remotely. 
If you don't check mail remotely, that may not be a factor.
