You will need to install the proper SCSI drivers--they should be available
as a module during the installation of SuSE. I know an Adaptect 1540 works
in Linux--I've used one. I also know that particular card is slow as
molassas. I would prefer IDE over that particular model of SCSI card. You
might consider buying a newer SCSI card--I got an Advansys PCI card for
about $40. It has one internal (50-pin) and one external (25-pin)
connector. It's nothing fancy, but it should work for some basic stuff, and
it works great in both Linux and Windows.
