As I post this 'Egghead.Com' Auctions ;
http://www.surplusauction.com/wc.dll?Lots~Info~90916H-MM172770&UID=DF01

Has a BOCA 56K V.90 modem for $45 (current bid + shipping)

While the specs say it is a P-N-P modem I know for a fact that this modem
can be jumpered and does work with Linux.

Tom -

I would suggest that you keep an eye out at online auctions like
'EGGHEAD.COM', 'UBID.COM' and 'ONSALE.COM' for ISA NON-WINmodems.

I picked up a BOCA ISA JUMPERED for $32 (with shipping) about two months a
go at 'Egghead'

Also you may want to check out computer close out dealer compgeeks.com, but
most of the time they only have WinModems.

I need to buy a 56k modem to install in my Linux box (Red Hat 6, preferably
PCI). What: a) works? b) costs < $50? c) can be bought at a local Wichita
store?

I checked at three computer stores today, only found one modem for < $50,
and was assured by the otherwise unknowledgeable clerk that it wouldn't
work with Linux.
