Try: look into setterm re: console blanking
 eg. setterm -blank 0

Not sure if this will get what you want, though. A quick grep through the
source finds /usr/src/linux/drivers/char/console.c has 'blankinterval' at
10 minutes. You could always change that (0 to disable) and recompile. 

Clint: re delete/backspace with Netscape, look at 
/usr/doc/Keyboard-and-Console-HOWTO
