Personally I like to use the vi editor. However, off late, I've noticed
that on some ascii files I see annoying ^M characters at the end of each
line(carriage returns). They don't show up in pico or any other editors. I
was wondering if there was a way to set the display in vi so that I don't
see the carriage returns. I'm also lost for an explanation to this
problem. I believed that if you FTP an ASCII file in binary mode, one
might see this problem. However, this isn't the case.

TIA for any help.
