I finally got a new version of linux installed and still no sound.
according to the documentation that came with the kernel, my OP931M
sound card is a 'plug and play'. all I know is that when this
computer had windoz the sound was loud with the following settings:
220, irq 7, dma 0

the following was from a pnpdump.

  (CONFIGURE OPT0931/-1 (LD 0
  #     ANSI string -->AUX0<--
  # (ACT Y)
  ))
  #
  # Logical device id OPT9310

 # (IO 2 (BASE 0x0220))
 # Logical device decodes 16 bit IO address lines
 # Minimum IO base address 0x0e0c
 # Maximum IO base address 0x0ffc
 # IO base alignment 4 bytes
 # Number of IO addresses required: 4
 # (IO 3 (BASE 0x0e0c))

pnpprobe returned a short error message :(

has anyone had any luck with linux pnp programs?
where is a good source for information?

any help will be appreciated.

mike wagle,
wichita.
