I have a RedHat Linux 5.2 setup that I am using as a file/print server.
I want it to handle my small office email too. I have made sure that
Sendmail and Imap are installed. The Imap and POP3/Pop2 Binaries are at
/usr/sbin. They are enabled in /etc/inetd.conf.

I have been trying to use Netscape Communicator as the client on a
networked Win 95 machine. To test it, I have prepared email using Pine
on the server. When I prepare and send mail using Pine, it accepts the
Send command, but then sits for about 60 seconds. ps -a indicates the
Sendmail is processing something, but it is taking a L-O-N-G time.
Ultimately, though, the mail is sent.

My servers name is "linux" and when I set preferences in netscape to
incoming mail server "linux", I can retrieve the mail I sent from
Pine. However, when I try to reply, or send new mail to the server, my
netscape client just seems to keep searching for (trying to connect to)
the server. It says "Connect: Contacting host", with a 0% transferred
indicatin. I have set the Outgoing Mail Server as "linux" too. Using
Netscape Mail, I have been able to pull mail off the server, but not put
any on it.

The questions are What should the mail server preferences be in
Netscape? Is Sendmail always this slow? Any thoughts as to what might
be causing it? The server is a P133 and is not heavily used, so it
shouldn't be bogged with other jobs. Any tips or tricks will be
appreciated.

Carl
