Hi All.

I went over to the Red Coach Inn around mid-morning. I found the
registration desk and a sign said "Admission $3." Well, that was all I
needed to see as none of the ads I heard said anything about admission.
Now we know.

So, I went down to Towne West mall, specifically B. Dalton to look for
the new Linux Magazine. They actually have several copies on the rack
and much to my surprise today they are offering %40 off any ONE item you
buy (today only, I think). So I paid $3.15 (with tax) for my copy.
Much better deal most likely than the "sale" above.

This is the inaugural issue and is very well done. While it has lots of
splashy graphics, its content level seems to be high. Some of the
highlights include:

Interview with Linus -- just after 2.2 release
        Samba -- seven pages worth
Microscared -- 5 pages of open source vs closed source
including an interesting pix of RMS
Newbies -- seems to cover a lot of ground regarding a first-
distribution installation with pix from Win95
showing where to get system details
The State of the Union -- several pages on 2.2 by Matt Welsh
        And many other goodies

Overall it appears there is much useful content and I'll be absorbing
this issue for several days (there's even an introduction to system
calls, something interesting to me right now). They have a web page at:

P.S. The last page was worth the price alone! It may be at Barnes and
Noble as well, wasn't on the shelf as of the 3rd, though.
