How about covering Tcl/Tk?

I bought a book on it, sat down that evening, and made a little combined
CDRom Mounter/Dismounter, Print queue checker, disk free space checker,
and ppp starter that runs under X. Seems like a quick, easy way to
customize Linux systems and write small simple apps as well. Makes an
easy way to get into OpenSource development!

Just a thought..

P.S. Newbies (like me!): Tcl is an interactive, interpreted scripting
language, and Tk is the toolkit to add an X GUI to your scripts. Tcl/Tk
is also multi-platform, with close to native look and feel on *nix/X,
Mac, Win95 and WinNT.
