[aclug-L] AutoRPM problems

I am trying to install autorpm using rpm or Glint and I get the same
error...
failed to open //var/lib/rpm/packages.rpm
error: cannot open //var/lib/rpm/packages.rpm

I downloaded autorpm from ftp.jayhawks.net.
I found packages.rpm, the rpm database indicates packages is not installed,
 and if I try to install it, it indicates it is not a valid rpm.  The file
listing is as follows
-rw-r--r--   1 root     root      3918536 Dec 23 12:13 packages.rpm


What am I doing wrong?
