A few things you might try:

1) what sort of laptop is it?

2) write to linux-laptop@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with as much information as
possible (kernel version, which disksets, which exact laptop, how much RAM,
what type of CPU, etc.)

This might be out of our collective expertise in this list, unfortunately.
