Try <cntl><alt><+>... That should cycle through all the configured
resolutions and scan rates you have. If the desired resolution is not
in the list, you may want to attempt to manualy set up what you want...
Look in the file "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config" for more details....

If RedHat did not give you the choice of running in the higher
resolution, there is very likely a reason you can't. If you set up the
1280X1024 resolution, but cannot get you X-windows server to use it, you
will need to look at the server's standard out to see why that mode was
removed from the list. Perhaps you could try a differant monitor
configuration with wider sync ranges, but BE CAREFUL! It is possible,
though not likely, to toast your monitor if you leave an unsupported
sync rate on it too long. If you ever get a scrambled looking screen,
undo what you did as quickly as possible.

Other tools you may want to try...
1.  Xconfigurator   ---> Red Hat's configuration program for X-windows..
2. xvidtune ---> X-Windows based way to fine tune your modes/monitor
interactions.
3. xwininfo ---> A simple way to figure out what resolution/Color
depth you are running (just select the background window)
4. startx ----> The way to start X from a command line (but you knew
that).

Good luck,
