The problem is that you have a default route set that you don't
need. When pppd makes a connection it needs to make a default route to
SouthWind, but seems to be unable to because you already have a default
route. For your LAN you probably do not need to make that default
route. Look in your config files where the routes are set and take
that one out.
See if that does it. If not we will dig deeper.
