Well, after finally getting a internet connection to SW
working I've messed it up. Since networking the house, when
I run pppd I get connected, get a warning about routes, and
IP's are assigned. Then it doesn't want to do anything. I
don't think that the machine is seeing the ppp interface.

Here's the log with the warning:

Oct 28 13:08:25 WhiteRoom chat[717]: expect (^M)
Oct 28 13:08:25 WhiteRoom
chat[717]: 115200^M
Oct 28 13:08:25 WhiteRoom chat[717]: -- got it
28 13:08:25 WhiteRoom pppd[716]: Serial connection established.
Oct 28
13:08:26 WhiteRoom pppd[716]: Using interface ppp0
Oct 28 13:08:26
WhiteRoom pppd[716]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS3
Oct 28 13:08:30
WhiteRoom pppd[716]: Remote message:
Oct 28 13:08:33 WhiteRoom pppd[716]:
not replacing existing default route to lo []
Oct 28
13:08:33 WhiteRoom pppd[716]: local IP address
Oct 28
13:08:33 WhiteRoom pppd[716]: remote IP address

So since I suspect a routing prob, here's the routing table:

Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask
Flags Metric Ref Use Iface *
  U 0 0 7 lo *
 U 0 0 2 eth0
  UG 0 0 10 lo

The linux box uses for its network IP and for lo. I don't
really know what I'm looking at here, but sould lo have two entries?

I guess what I really need to know is where can I find the documentation that
would cover this situation or what, if you can tell, am I doing wrong?

Just in case it will help diagnose the prob, here's what I get from ifconfig
while connected to SW.

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:
Bcast: Mask:
RUNNING MTU:3584 Metric:1
          RX packets:501 errors:0 dropped:0
          TX packets:501 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0

 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:40:05:6B:60:38
          inet addr:
 Bcast: Mask:
MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:2626 errors:0 dropped:0
          TX packets:479 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0

Interrupt:9 Base address:0x300

ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point
          inet addr: P-t-P:
          UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING MTU:1500 Metric:1

      RX packets:7 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
          TX packets:9
errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0

Well, what say ye?
