Yes, it can be a bit of a trick to communiate with Windows users using 
Linux.  Just don't say I didn't warn you that your contacts could be
fooled into thinking you're talking to them when you're not :-)

Anyway, the best client -- like Linux distributions -- depends on your 
needs.  There is an excellent summary of Linux ICQ clients available
at http://www.portup.com/~gyandl/icq/
