ok that was from memory,  as I boot it it said it was the ncr53c8xx
driver. I did notice a lot less feedback (the information it pritns to
the screen during boot) with the broken kernel. Maybe my sub options for
the NCR53cxx are wrong. I kept the defaults, maybe I should change them
(i'm just not sure what to)
