Can you verify that /usr/lib/python2.2/site-packages/offlineimap comtains
imaplib.py and that its contents appear to be intact?  (That is, identical
to the file in the OfflineIMAP distribution?)

Can you also verify that the OfflineIMAP executable you are using is
identical to the one in the distribution, save perhaps for the very first
line?  And that the first line in that file is calling the Python you expect
it to?
