hi friends,

i have been trying to make a boot+root linux system on a floppy
follwing the "linux boot-disk howto". with all my efforts, i am still
not able to reduce the size of the compressed root filesystem to lesser
than 1.5 mb (uncompressed, it comes to 2.4 mb). the kernel is small
enough - a 236 kb minimal one, but the trouble seems to be with the
glibc - even after stripping debugging info, the glibc-2.2.2.so comes to
about 1.4 mb.=20

i have minimal stuff otherwise, only a small "ash", ls, rm and ed (not
even vi) and the login program and mingetty to give a terminal. any help
on reducing the root filesystem size will be great! or even if anyone
who has a working configuration, it would be precious. i am using kernel
2.2.16 and utilities from red hat 7.1.

thanks in advance,
hareesh.
