The 550 error is a pop-up window from Kmail, and is not like a returned
mail message. Thanks to Sudharsa , who correctly identified 550 error as
anti-spamming , which is a policy of my ISP. I cannot send any mail at
all with Kmail. The error I get in Netscape is due to a known quirk in
the mail server, which can't be helped, it's some policy they have.
I would really appreciate some hints about how to configure a log of an
attempted connection. I just know that somehow you create /var
/log/whatever and then send it to /var/log/ whatever. The commands I
referred to appear in a little pop-up window during login attempts, kind
of like a status bar. My ISP tech just notified me that he uses Kmail
and it works fine, the commands should be EHLO, AUTH PLAIN, blah, blah,
MAIL, RCPT. ( the EHLO relates to ESMTP, as opposed to SMTP)
