After a long wait, we are pleased to announce the release of Freeciv 2.0.0.

You can download the source from one of

  ftp://ftp.freeciv.org/pub/freeciv/stable/freeciv-2.0.0.tar.bz2
  ftp://ftp.freeciv.org/pub/freeciv/stable/freeciv-2.0.0.tar.gz
  ftp://ftp.freeciv.org/pub/freeciv/stable/freeciv-2.0.0.zip

or download a binary package. There are two MS Windows versions:

  ftp://ftp.freeciv.org/freeciv/stable/Freeciv-2.0.0-win32-gtk2.exe
The GTK2 installer will only run well on Windows XP, 2000, and NT.
  ftp://ftp.freeciv.org/freeciv/stable/Freeciv-2.0.0-win32.exe
The old installer will run everywhere but has fewer features.

There is also a MacOS X installer

  ftp://ftp.freeciv.org/freeciv/packages/macosx/freeciv-2.0.0.dmg

which is built for Panther and requires X11 to have been installed already.

This release is replete with new features (and bugs). You can find a
complete feature list, more downloads, and add-ons at the web site:
