Thank you all for your help.  Everything is working great now.

2 major lessons learned:

This aint M$-DOS, so no assuming things like the shell have '.' in the
search path by default.

You probably shouldn't root around where you aren't familiar.

Look forward to being apart of this very friendly linux community.
