Every now and then I suddently feel the urge to play freeciv. Like in this
moment. I always download the latest version as a tarball. It just
occurred to me it takes a long time downloading it. I'd rather not mess
with the diff-files as it's a long time since last time I downloaded
freeciv - and it's certainly easier for me to start downloading the source
and think of something else than to download a pile of diffs and upgrade
my freeciv. Anyway. The downloading is slow today.

What about setting up mirrors of the ftp-site? We have disk space
available at td.org.uit.no, at least. Even though it's geographically a
bit off the beaten track (Tromsø, northern Norway), we've got quite nice
bandwidth to the nordic countries as well as the rest of the world due to
our connection to the university network.

I'd daresay there are a lot of persons here capable of setting up mirrors
at similar sites around the world.

It must be discussed how to do this - what should be mirrored, how often,
how should the web-pages be changed to get people to use the mirrors - oh,
I just got an idea (probably a bad idea as nobody else are using it): a
download page with imagelinks to the different mirrors (<img
src="ftp://mirror-server/...";>) and a message like: "please click at the
image that downloads fastest".
