Sorry, no, it is not clear. I don't do this cvs stuff every day,
so:

I have set $CVSROOT to :ext:chris@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:/home/freeciv/CVS
as usual, and I get an error:

chris@max:/usr/local/httpd/beta> cvs -z3 checkout -r S1_14 -d freeciv
cvs [checkout aborted]: must specify at least one module or directory

I have write permission here.

Also, I currently update my stuff with
cvs -d :pserver:freecvs@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:/home/freeciv/CVS -q update -d

Do I need to change this to update the beta version after checkout (besides
that I change the directory from which I issue the command)?
