The configure script detected that your readline library contains
"completion_matches" but not "rl_completion_matches". libreadline 5.x
should have both of them, so it appears to me that there is also an
older version of the library present on your system. Maybe it's really a
path issue like you said on the forums. Try running configure with

LIBS="-L/sw/lib" ./configure ...
