Design board:

I'd like to direct your attention to Ticket #2771, Colorized
messages, because at least one coder has said he didn't like colors.
I think an overly colorful chat interface can attract unwanted
people, but I also find it very functional to have at least private
messages in red.

The state of the patch is currently a little kludgy.
