I agree with Mike (this time).

I like delta improvement, to reduce network bandwidth.

But I strongly support a solution that uses plain C (as we used until
now) and that I'm sure can be adopted.

All python or perl magic, should be something limited to create the new
code tree, not something needed from now and forever.
