[Freeciv-Dev] HOME variable and Windows NT (don'n know really who to add[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index] [Thread Index]
Hello. I have played both Linux and Win32 ("Andreas Kemnade's Native Windows Freeciv") versions of Freeciv. Since most people using windows are of the type that just expects stuff to work without much administering (is that wrong?), then I figured that most of them will also have problems with the HOME environment variable. Whithout it saving any user settings will not work, and that way people just have a reason to complain about Linux I made a short explanation that you may want to put somewhere near the Win32 version of Freeciv. It includes a short text, a screenshot (althouth in Polish, but general idea should be understood), and a sample .reg file for the user to edit. I included all three - it's up to you whether you find this is worth putting anywhere. Regards, Michal Borsuk -- This letter is signed (X.509) If your mail program says the certificate is invalid because of "unrecognized CA", then add the CA to your database: click http://www.certum.pl/class1.crt How to have the HOME variable on Windows 2000? (should work with NT4, may work with Win95/98/Me) - EITHER - Download and edit the included registry file (HOME-example.reg) Replace "f:\\files\\settings\\freeciv" with the directory of your choice. Remember about the double backslashes. - OR - Go to Control Panel | system | Advanced | Environment Variables. Press Add. Fields to fill: Name: HOME Value: Put a directory where you intend to keep freeciv configuration files, i.e. f:\files\freeciv - - - - - Now you can save "Local Options" in Freeciv. The filename is ".civclientrc" . Any mistakes, bugs: lmb@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
