i played freeciv for the first time about three years ago and i've been playing
intermittently ever since. occasionally i have felt like making an
improvement. a few times i have brosed the code, and i end up getting
frustrated because the structure of the game is not laid out at all like i
would like, and i feel like starting from scratch. (if anyone wants, i could
provide a list of things i don't like about freeciv). after a short period of
inspiration, i give up and that's the end of my idea.

please be aware that rewriting another civ project is a lot of work, and you're
going to have to find a brand new user base to find all your bugs for you.

anyway, now i'm working on an idea that might actually work. basically it's a
new client. it will work on X-windows, Win32, and Macintosh. and i'm thinking
it will be much easier to add features, without having to program X11 widgets
(yuck). maybe even a client-side AI (i know, i can hear you guys say it, "it
will never happen").

i guess what i wanted to say was that this isn't the first time i've seen
someone want to re-write freeciv (i've even wanted to do it myself). be aware
that it isn't easy. maybe your efforts would be more effective if you joined
one of the existing projects, e.g. http://sourceforge.net/projects/ObjectCiv/.

if you do get it working, let me know. i want my client to work for your game
too.

The following parametric equations define a peculiar curve as t goes from 0 to
8:
x(t)=t+1/(3+300*(t+.06)^2)-1/(2+200*(t-.08)^2)-1.2/(1+50*(t-.84)^2)+.9/(1+200*(t-1.24)^2)-.7/(1+28*(t-1.53)^2)-.7/(1+5*(t-2.6)^2)-.4*tanh(2*t-6)+.4/(1+10*(t-3.4)^2)-.4/(1+10*(t-4.1)^2)+.4/(1+10*(t-4.4)^2)-.4/(1+10*(t-5.05)^2)-.2*tanh(2.5*t-13.5)-.2+.4/(1+10*(t-5.9)^2)-.4/(1+10*(t-6.6)^2)+.8/(1+10*(t-7.1)^2)-.8/(1+10*(t-7.5)^2)
y(t)=(1-.5*tanh(5*t-4.5))*sin(2*Pi*t)+1/2
