Nobody has yet come forward with sound files with a free license that we
can use. If somebody can find or create such files, then I suppose that
would help matters considerably.

Actually, adding sound support is non-trivial due to the fact that the
client does not have enough information to play sounds yet. Additional
information has to be sent from the server to the client, either as sound
packets, or by extending existing packets with more information.
