We can put it in the inline help. But, is it of use in the inline help ?
The AUTHORS file is only needed by automake to produce makefiles.
More seriously, you can find all the main contributors for a version
with a very small description of what they have done. For knowing exactly
what one has done, it's in the changelog.

But, we can add a section CREDITS in helpdata.txt .
If more people are interested, it can be done.
