First of all, this is a really great game, thanks to a lot of people. I
just had some time on my hands this past weekend, poked around, downloaded
freeciv, and had a great time just playing against the computer.
Being of Lithuanian descent, I was thrilled when the "Choose a country"
dialog came up, and I could choose to be Lithuanian! This was not a choice
in the for-sale Civ game, thought I would often type in "Lithuanian"
instead of "Roman", or whatever, and play that way... Here, I even get
names of Lithuanian cities to choose from when I build cities - except
that once I had to reject "Klaipeda" three or four times until I actually
built a city on a sea, so that Klaipeda could be a port city.
Of course, with all this praise must come a small complaint - the default
leader's name for the Lithuanians was Jogaila. Now, Jogaila was a
Lithuanian Grand Duke, as well as King of Poland, grandson of Grand Duke
Gediminas (the other listed choice for leader names). However, he is not
highly regarded among Lithuanians. He is seen as someone who abondoned
Lithuania in order to be king elsewhere; his cousin, Vytautas, made Grand
Duke of Lithuania, is seen as more of a hero, as he kept trying to be king
of a Lithuania independant of Polish rule.
Gediminas is a good choice for leader of the lithuanians; where the Poles
see a Jagiellonian dynasty, founded by Jogaila (Jagielo in Polish (I hope
that's the correct spelling)), the Lithuanians see the dynasty as the
Gediminaiciai, founded by Gediminas, Jogaila's grandfather.
Another good choice for a leader is Mindaugas, the first king of
Lithuania, the one who created a unified Lithuania out of the multiple
baltic tribes in the area.
Thus, I suggest that the line
leader="Gediminas","Jogaila"
in the lithuanian.ruleset file be replaced by
leader="Vytautas","Gediminas","Mindaugas"
