Well, you are all certainly welcome to work on AI client- or -server-side.

There is a specialised mailing list for AI-related issues, 
freeciv-ai@xxxxxxxxxxx.

Be warned that getting your patch into CVS is a long and laborious task, 
so be prepared to be patient.  It also helps to start with small patches, 
before going off and trying a huge project like writing client-side AI.
Starting small will help you familiarize yourself with the code.
