Greetings,

Long time lurker on this list.

I have a debian (woody - with some upgrades) server running Samba
(3.0.2a-0.ba) that I setup about 6 months ago for use in my small
office. Client machines are all W2k. The server seems to be healthy and
robust. It serves the document files fine and also serves a multi user
database application just fine with no problems. I use fixed ip addresses
in hosts and lmhosts on the internal network.

My problem comes up with the database data sets I just added to the
server. They are both from different programs. In both of those, Samba
will only allow one user at a time to access the data. One of the systems
is a calendar system/contact manager. The calendar works fine but the
contacts (address book) can be opened by only one client. If another
tries, the program locks up and has to be terminated. Same is true for
the other program. One user works fine, the others are locked up if they
try to access. There appears to be no error generated. The client appears
to be in continuous communication with the server.

I have run these programs off a RedHat server for 6 or 7 years, with
minimal problems. The Samba setup is very similar between the two
machines. I have tried oplocks on and off and level2 oplocks on and
off. File permissions are set to 777. The users are all part of the same
group. I'm running out of ideas about where to look for the problem. I
increased the Samba log rate and it showed me nothing I could make sense
of, and really, nothing I could pinpoint to the locked clients.

Any suggestions about where to turn to next?

Carl
