Kirk,
Geac, the company I work for develops ERP software. We quite frequently are
asked to answer RFPs. A small list of companies that use our software is:
Coca-Cola, American Express, Morgan Stanley, Cessna. I would be happy to
discuss any questions or concerns you might have. As far as the "security
check", I haven't heard of this happening. Usually the software manufacture
will perform these security tests on their own, and provide the results to
potential and existing customers.
I realize this mail list is not for selling services or products, so if you
have any further questions please feel free to e-mail me at

Subject: [aclug-L] questions
W.S.U. has hired (for free?) ArthurAnderson (or just
Anderson now) to prepare and issue a Request for
Proposal (RFP) to potential software vendors for an
"integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system."
Vendors like PeopleSoft and Oracle might be interested.
Have you (or your company) had any experience with ERPs?
Do these pose security problems?
(A long shot, but one person from Anderson was interested)
If the vendor set up a sample ERP at WSU and gave permission
to do so, would there be interest in checking the security of
this vendor's product by attempting to circumvent its security?
(If this (i.e. a "security check") was a requirement of the RFP,
would this be a good idea?)
Any comments (e.g. enough with business, get a (different) life)
are of interest.
Sincerely,
Kirk
