A few things:
Check to make sure WORKGROUP is the same in linux and windows. 
If that doesn't work, and don't mind cleartext passwds look at /usr/doc/samba 
(or whatever it is, and find the section about having windows send in clear 
text. (it uses regedit to edit the regestry.)
Reboot the windows box, after changing either, if it doesn't work.

Better yet, make it a linux box :)
The samba HOWTO might help as well.
