[aclug-L] Help with .rar

I downloaded some files from a newsgroup that are done up
with rar. I can't find anything in howtos or man pages that 
explain anything about this format or how to deal with them.
Most of the files have an extension of .r0x (where x is another
number that counts the files) and one has an extension of 
.rar. 

Can someone tell me how to restore these files to a usable
form. I'm thinking that rar is some sort of archive file, 
but have no idea how to work with them.
